Shangri-La Hotel management are the best in the world……..Hands Down!
Not only is the Shangri-La a beautiful, leading hotel, but the way the management treat their staff reflects on the service, standards & values that the Hotel represents. That standard is….Outstanding!
This year, the committee said I’ve been hosting this event for them for the last 6 or 7 years. I’m shocked, because it doesn’t feel that long. The event company in Singapore,’ Eureka’ have been doing the set-up & organising for a lot longer, but, without a doubt, I’m sure it’s one of theirs & my favourite events of the year. I really look forward to hosting this night.
Shangri-La Hotel go above & beyond anyone else in the industry, to make sure that staff who are retiring, or qualify for 10 years & above Long Service are treated like Royalty. This truly shows how much they value the people who work for them.
General Manager’s Opening Address:
As the General Manager said “People don’t stay here because we have nice new carpet or fresh paint, they stay here because of the level of service they receive’. This is not something that I hear very often in speeches when I am the corporate event emcee in Singapore for other events.
This is also one of those rare events, where we give away Long Service Awards to people who have been with the Shangri-La for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 & 40 years. Yes, 40 years working for the Shangri-La. That means they basically left school & worked here. This year there were three 40 year Long Service recipients.
Let me tell you about the fantastic night they get every year.
They have their own special event, where the recipients are literally given the ‘Red Carpet’ treatment. A lovely cocktail reception first, & then they are escorted into the Ballroom for their own ‘Oscars Style’ night.
A sumptuous 8 course banquet is served to them, & service only stops when the awards are being given out.
Long Service Awards Like No Other
All the management are present to show their respect, appreciation & gratitude to the recipients, & while the General Manager gives them their awards, the presentation is witnessed by the Head of their Department. All recipients are individually escorted down a red carpet & onto the stage to be honoured, & it is truly heart- warming to see the staff being treated with such dignity & elegance.
From the looks on their faces they feel really honoured. I love to see them treated so beautifully.
Of course, the night is not only formalities, but it is also full of fun, games & excitement……because it’s also their ‘special’ party. The management throw themselves into the fun & games & they really make sure that all the retirees & LS awardees have a rollicking good time.
This year also had a Christmassy feel, with the lovely decorations & vibe that the event company & Shangri-La committee provided. I wrote a special X’mas song for Singapore this year, & as a corporate emcee in Singapore, it was a priviledge to sing my song for them to close of the night.
So, I guess I’ve given you their ‘secret’ as to why the Shangri-La has remained an Iconic World Class Hotel. It’s the way they value the people who make up the Shangri-La, & then they manifest it in an action which lets the staff know how much they care.
